Hello,
And sorry for my delay with getting this week’s post out. I didn’t have as much time as usual to write it, so I thought “I know, I’ll just do a quick one about the books I’ve enjoyed recently.”
And this was a major misjudgement, because book recommendations always take me ages. I end up getting lost in each book, leafing through it to remind myself of the important bits, savouring the author’s words all over again and, as is often the case with a good book, having all sorts of ideas that I won’t have time or space to write about.
So here (below the line) are a few good books I’ve read in recent months that I think you might enjoy too.
But first, a small reminder that I will be speaking to Emma Pooley in Hebden Bridge on the 13th July, at the Trades Club (tickets here). This’ll be the second time I’ve interviewed Emma: the first was at last year’s Kendal Mountain Festival, as part of a bigger programme which meant we only had around 20 minutes. Given that she has been a competitive cyclist (and runner) across two decades and several disciplines, and that, like many female pro athletes, she also has a PhD, a separate career and a lot of opinions to share, I’m pleased that we’ll have an entire evening to get into things. (If you can’t make it to Hebden, Emma also has events planned in Chiswick, Bristol and York.)
And consider this a bonus book recommendation: she’s in town to promote Oat To Joy, a memoir with recipes. (Why has no one else thought of this?)
And now, on to the books…
